The story of L.A. Noire is set in Los Angeles at the end of the 1940s, before there were highways. Post-war corruption, drugs, and jazz were widespread at the time, and these elements largely form the backdrop of the game.
L.A. Noire combines car chases, shootouts, investigations, and a complex storyline to draw the player into the game. In this open-ended story, it is up to the player to solve a number of brutal murders. They do this by, among other things, investigating crime scenes, searching for clues and evidence, and interrogating people.
The game uses a special technique that realistically transfers actors' faces into the game. This allows a player to closely analyze the face of an interlocutor during an interrogation to determine whether they are telling the truth or lying. Such a person's behavior can also provide clues as to how best to approach them. One person breaks when you pressure them, while another needs to be handled with kid gloves.
