After your plane crashes into icy, unknown waters, you discover a rusted diving bell that takes you down to Rapture, a city hidden beneath the ocean's surface. The city was originally built as an idealistic community for a hand-picked group of scientists, artists, and industrialists. However, the ideal vision no longer exists. The city is now filled with corpses. Genetically mutated inhabitants lurk around every corner, ready to attack you. Super-strong bodyguards, Big Daddies, roam Rapture's halls, protecting little girls who scavenge the dead.

These little girls are scavenging Adam from the dead. You soon realize that you also desperately need that Adam. Adam and Eve are substances that allow you to genetically incorporate Plasmids into your body. These Plasmids are special powers. In Bioshock, you can't just rely on firearms; there's more to fending off your attackers. Plasmids come in all shapes and sizes; for example, you can gain telekinetic powers, fire powers, ice powers, and electrical powers. By creatively using these powers, hacking devices, and always thinking carefully about your actions, you can defeat your enemies, figure out what happened to Rapture, and escape.
