1. Two timelines, one island
   The game takes place in one large location — the Island of Time — which you visit in both the past and the present. Actions in the past affect how the island looks in the present, creating dynamic level changes.
2. New combat system with dual-wielding
   Unlike the first installment, you can now use two weapons simultaneously and take out enemies with brute force via a freer, combo-based combat system. Weapons can also be taken from enemies.
3. Gothic atmosphere and heavy metal soundtrack
   The game's tone is much darker, with bloodier combat, a grimmer protagonist, and a soundtrack featuring tracks by Godsmack — a radical stylistic break that received mixed reviews but gave the series a raw identity.
