Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is an expanded re-release of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. In this version, you not only get the complete original game but also a large amount of extra content such as VR missions, alternative missions, and the so-called "Snake Tales," short story missions in which you play as Solid Snake. The game combines stealth, action, and storytelling in a manner typical of the Metal Gear series. The Xbox version was the first time the game became available outside of PlayStation platforms.

 

 

Three interesting facts

  1. Substance contains over 500 VR and alternative missions, ranging from stealth to shooting, and even bizarre scenarios such as eliminating enemies with a tranquilizer while on roller skates.
  2. The Xbox version of Substance was released before the PlayStation 2 version, which was exceptional as Metal Gear had previously been exclusively associated with PlayStation.
  3. In the "Snake Tales" missions, the story is rewritten so that you play as Solid Snake in environments intended for Raiden in the main story, addressing criticism from fans who preferred playing as Snake.
