Guitar Hero Live is a reimagining of the classic rhythm game, departing from previous installments in the series. Instead of cartoonish graphics, you now play from a first-person perspective on a live-action stage, as part of a real rock band. The crowd reacts dynamically to how well (or poorly) you play.
The game introduces an entirely new six-button guitar system, divided into two rows of three, creating a more challenging and realistic playing style. In addition to the main mode, the game also features GHTV, an online platform with hundreds of songs that you could play as interactive music videos.

1. Real video recordings instead of animation: Guitar Hero Live uses live-action footage with real actors as band members and audience, creating a unique and immersive experience.
2. New guitar, new feel: Instead of five buttons in one row, this game introduces a guitar with two rows of three buttons, mimicking the feel of real chords and providing a fresh learning curve.
3. GHTV later disappeared completely: The GHTV mode offered songs playable 24/7 through a kind of music channel, but was taken offline in December 2018, causing a large part of the content to disappear.
