   Final Fantasy VII was the first installment in the series to use 3D characters on pre-rendered backgrounds, and the first not to appear on a Nintendo console — a historic turning point in the gaming industry.

2. Three discs full of content:
   Due to the enormous amount of story, cutscenes, and gameplay, the game was spread across three CDs — a rarity at the time.

3. Breakthrough of JRPGs in the West:
   Thanks to its cinematic presentation and a successful marketing campaign, FFVII introduced the genre to a global audience and opened the door for other Japanese RPGs outside of Asia.
