Final Fantasy I

In this classic RPG, you form a team of four Warriors of Light and set out to restore crystals and save the world from ruin. The game offers free class choice, turn-based combat, and an epic adventure.

Facts:

1. The GBA version includes four new dungeons, each with multiple floors and boss battles from later Final Fantasy games.
2. Players can save freely anywhere, which is a huge improvement over the limited save system of the original.
3. The balance of battles and experience points was adjusted to require less grinding than on the NES.

 

Final Fantasy II

A daring RPG that deviated from the standard: no leveling system, but a growth mechanic based on the use of weapons, magic, and skills. You follow Firion and his companions in a rebellion against an imperial empire.

Facts:

1. Instead of levels, characters grow in strength based on what they do – use swords to become stronger with swords, and so on.
2. This version includes the additional “Soul of Rebirth” epilogue, playable after completing the main story.
3. Final Fantasy II was originally not released outside Japan, making this GBA version the first introduction for many.
